Today Friday 13th Nov 2009... Happened to glance at the Joyce Meyer daily God's word for today when I was carrying Gavriel (my 4 month old boy).
Somehow, I think I was led by God to turn to today devotion. Interesting, the topic of the day was "Enjoy life". This was what she wrote:
" Enjoyment of life is not based on enjoyable circumstances. It is an attitude of the heart, a decision to enjoy everything because everything - even little, seemingly insignificant things - has a part in the overall "big picture" of life.
Rejoice in the lord alway: and again I say, rejoice. - Philippians 4:4 "
Mm... Think I'm doing the right thing today. I'm on Leave today. So is my wife... Er... Sort of, half day leave is still Leave right? Ok, I shall enjoy today, Nope, is everyday but today I decided to enjoy in every single things that happen today...
Alright, I planned to bring my boy to my wife office to fetch her from work. Sweet right? Well, my wife did highlighted to me that maybe I can bring Gavriel over... :-p
So everything was planned accordingly to my timing. Just as I was about to go out, I realized that my boy needed to drink more milk. By the time I finished feeding him, oh no... Timing a bit out.
When I reached the bus stop, the bus ran away before I could even stop it. However thing was not really that bad. I received an SMS from my wife to tell me to take it slowly. She could wait. Praise god for such a wonderful wife. :-)
Managed to squeeze into the MRT... My goodness, you mean man carrying a baby got no privilege? No one cares to give up their seat to me. :-p Never mind, I enjoyed standing too :-(
Reached the destination station, realized that it was raining very heavily. Ok, no more going to my wife's office. Reason being I needed to dash at least 400m under the rain if I were to carry on with my plan. So I called and waited patiently for my wife to finish her work at the station. Never did I expected, my son suddenly throw out milk all over my body. As I was carrying him on the baby carrier, both of us were thoroughly wet with the "digested" milk.
Great, I managed to take a cab, rushed to my wife's office and get my wife to change my boy while I get myself clean up. As the "damage" was quite "smelly", we decided to cancel our "meal out and shopping time" by going back home for a change.
When we reached downstairs of our flat, we realized that the lift is under maintenance. Excellent because finally we got to find time to do some exercise by climbing up the stairs, carrying all the "Barang Barang" and my boy up to the 15 floor of our house
Suddenly while my boy was sleeping soundly between me and my wife, I realised that life is still not too bad after all.
Finished cleaning up and taken our meal, rain was still pouring heavily.
I realized that all the things did not go according to my plan at all. Enjoying life... How to do that?
Remember what did God tell me today?
" Enjoyment of life is not based on enjoyable circumstances. "
Indeed my circumstances seem bad to enjoy....
" even little, seemingly insignificant things - has a part in the overall "big picture" of life. "
Looking back, however it is a great experience for me. Alone, just me bringing my boy taking bus and train. Realised that people tend to give up seats to lady with baby than man with baby :-p Getting both wet with "digested" milk on both father and son in MRT station. Climbing up stairs with my wife and my son. Spending time with my wife and son at home playing...
Hey, it is not that bad after all. We enjoyed our ride, both of us are still cool when we are both wet, we still joke when we are climbing up the stairs and we get to play and laugh with our boy today. If nothing of the "unplanned" happened, I don't think we as a family could do so many "different" things today. Life would still be the same as another OFF day as we always do.
Most importantly, God is still with me today. The moment I need a cab, it is there for me. (So Blessed by God) Even my wife comment that she realised that whenever I buy the "Char Siew" rice, the stall owner tend to give me more "Char Siew". (So Favored by God) while we are climbing up the stairs, we met the lift maintenance guy who said 'sorry' to us for making us climbing up the stairs. Is his job to do the maintenance, there isn't a need for him to be sorry about, but I received it. (So Loved by God)
Mmm... So if you asked me about Today, I think I still enjoy today.
Btw, did I tell you today were my 5th wedding anniversary?
Blessed anniversary darling, I love you. :-)
