In 1 John 4:8, it is written that "God is Love". He wants us to know him. In John 3:16, It is written "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
That is how much God's love is about.
In fact I have written a post on the topic love before (Oct 2008). Then why am I on this topic again? Just that on the other day, I happen to come across an article (TITLE: Hope Springs Eternal, BY: Tee Hun Ching, WHERE: The Straits Times Urban, DATED: 15 Jan 10)
In the article, the writer wrote a statment that said...
"Love is not a feeling but an action. It means doing the right thing by your spouse when the first flush of heady infatuation has ebbed, and working things out even when he is at his most unlovable.
It sounds like an ideal. Then again, achieving the near-impossible is what makes true love so precious."
Yes, that's the main purpose for me to post on this topic again. To share with all of you this powerful statement. Althought I've been married for more than 5 years, I dare not said I have a lot of experience. However I do strongly agree with that.
Love is like eating steamboat. It can be eaten during any part of the process and the best part is that the brewing process is forever.
In the beginning, dating is just an exploration, trying to get the soup base, getting to know about love, experiencing the "good" and "bad" taste by adding different type of spices for ingredient. You can still change partner in life just like throwing away the soup by changing the water in the steamboat. However things change once you are married.
Once a couple get married, they're still brewing the soup. Married, enjoying each other in evey expect of life together. Going marketing together, shopping together, travelling the world together, having baby and raising up the baby together....
The different is that there is now a commitment. There is a responsiblity. They get to enjoy the "goodness" of the food now. No longer can they just throw the soup away. Remember, you might not be able to get the same delicious soup again. So how? Put in more ingredient and make the soup turn better. By slowing down our pace of life and kindle some romance to each other. Love needs to be nurture and it will grows, not buy and forget. Remember Life is short but our days can be lengthen when we enjoy our life in the pool of love.
So by the time you getting full of the meal, it is normally the time, you realise that the soup is the most delicious. That's the time, the couple has grow old together. They know what true love is all about. They have gone thru every single moment together. Now that they are old, they realise that love is still so sweet.
Alright, I sound so "girl" when I speak of all that. Seriously that how I think what love is all about. Of course, I sound so idealistic and that is why I agree with what the writer wrote in the article.
"Love is not a feeling but an action. It means doing the right thing by your spouse..." Love might be a feeling when you get to know each other but the feeling last only the begining. You need action. Without action, it is only empty talk. Without adding more ingredient, the soup is just water. Feeling will fade but action keep love alive. As long as you keep adding the ingredient, the soup will only be more and more tasty.
I'm still learning. I still make my wife angry. Maybe I have added wrong ingredient, but I'm sure it will turn better when I put in the correct one again.
* PS : Darling, Do you agree with me? *
